Course Description:
The authors have collaborated for some time on researching the history of addiction and recovery among the indigenous peoples of North America. This history is assembled from archival records and from the oral testimony of tribal elders.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course participant will be able to:
1) Discuss the contemporary Wellbriety movement and its history
2) Identify traditional Native American beliefs about alcoholics and those who recovered
3) List the therapeutic functions in and lessons for contemporary addictions counselors to be drawn from the Native American legacy
