Child & Adolescent Mental Health for Frontline Professionals

This course was developed using the book, A Multidisciplinary Handbook of Child and Adolescent Mental Health for Front-line Professionals, to provide an accessible introduction to child and mental health, covering the nature, prevalence, treatment and management of mental health problems in children and young people.  The material explores issues such as assessing and meeting the needs of young people, legal aspects of working with child mental health, as well as material on culture and diversity and an update on current medication.  The course is appropriate for students, trainers, and professionals working with young people with mental health problems in a medical and non-medical environment.  It also includes pertinent case studies that demonstrate the issues facing children with mental health issues and strategies for the professionals who work with them

Printing Your Certificates:

You will need the Free Adobe Reader in order to download and print your certificates. Your certificate will be made available immediately after passing your exam and submitting payment. If you have a discount plan on file the hours are automatically deducted from your plan.

If you are unable to download and print your certificate after taking an online exam, you may download all of your certificates from within your account at any time in the future. They will be stored within your account indefinitely until you delete them.

Log into your account using the blue login button located in the upper right hand corner of any page on our website. Click the 'certificates' tab. You will see your courses listed and next to each course a pdf link. Click the pdf link. The next page allows you to insert your license # on your certificate by highlighting it with your mouse. Click the green 'view' button and your certificate will open in Adobe Acrobat.

If you are still unable to download and print your certificate you will find within your account, under the certificates tab, a link that allows you to request a copy be sent via an alternative route. Click the link, fill out the form with your request and your certificate will be on its way.


Quantum Units Continuing Education Operates under the Philosophy of ‘Giving Back’ to Community

On April 17, 2009 Margie Savage, CEO and Founder of Quantum Units Continuing Education, will be donating her left kidney to friend Gayle Chipman. Gayle has Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). Her kidneys are currently functioning at 10%. Dialysis or Transplant is the only alternative to survival for those with PKD, an irreversible – progressive disease. The toll of this disease has emptied the pocketbooks and any leftover vacation and sick leave that Gayle and her supportive partner, Loren, have left from their places of employment.

HIV AIDS Among Special Populations

This course was designed to give a brief overview of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in various special populations. The information was taken from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and includes a discussion of current research and statistics, risk factors, socioeconomic issues, and prevention strategies among different races/ethnicities, women, older adults, youth, as well as other groups.


HIPPA Privacy Rule

Summary of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA) is a concise course which provides an overview of The Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information (“Privacy Rule”). The privacy rule establishes a set of national standards for the protection of certain health information. The resource material is provided by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, and although it is not a source of legal information or advice, it is designed to give readers a summary of the requirements of the Privacy Rule. It also includes information on where to view the entire Rule, provides helpful material about how the rule applies, and would be an excellent resource for anyone in the medical or mental health field.

5. Unpaid CEUs:  View 'unpaid' passing exams and submit payment.
6. Receipts:  View payments made and all credits and debits to your account.

1. Brief Strategic Family Therapy for Adolescent Drug Abuse – 13 standard ceus/10 NBCC ceus - This course was developed from the US Department of Health and Human Services National Institute on Drug Abuse publication which outlines Brief Strategic Family Therapy (BSFT),  a brief intervention used to treat adolescent drug use that occurs with other problem behaviors. BSFT is a family systems approach in which the counselor identifies the patterns of family interaction that are associated with the adolescent’s behavior problems. This course introduces professionals to concepts that are needed to understand the family as a vital context within which adolescent drug abuse occurs, and BSFT techniques discussed here will show how to engage and retain families in drug abuse treatment and ultimately cause them to behave more effectively.

2.  Depression – 3 Standard ceus $9/ 2 NBCC ceus $6 - This guide, published  by the National Institute of Mental Health, is for marriage and family therapists, social workers, counselors and others in the mental health field who are interested in evaluating depression and the difference between periods of feeling sad and blue compared to having a true disorder.  Its purpose is to review the causes and treatment strategies of depression, including the use of medication as part of treatment.

3. Major Depression – 2 Standard ceus $6/ NBCC – Not Approved - This course was developed from an article published through the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research (MFMER) and it gives a brief overview of the causes, symptoms, and treatment options for depression, which is formally known as major depression or clinical depression.  Many professionals today consider depression to be very serious and to be a chronic illness that requires long-term treatment, much like diabetes or high blood pressure. The article includes diagnostic criteria, advice on when to seek help, an overview of medication used to treat depression, and a discussion of preventative measures.  Since depression affects millions of adults in any given year in the United States, this course would be ideal for anyone who works in a helping profession, or for those who have an interest in learning more about the condition.
