How it Works
At Quantum Units Continuing Education, we offer free online open source materials and free online testing 24/7. Test first, pay later. All passing exams are saved in your account until you are ready to pay for a certificate. If you change your mind after taking and passing an exam, you NEVER NEED TO PAY AT ALL! You pay only when you decide you want to download a certificate for a passed course. This is a unique feature of our program.
Your Account: You have 6 tabs that will help you to manage your account:
1. Account Info. Change your username, password or email address.
2. Contact Info. Change your mailing address and phone number.
3. Licenses: Add or delete multiple licenses or credentials that you want printed on each certificate.
4. Certificates: Download your certificates, view courses taken, exam scores, exam dates, and hours. You may also delete old certificates.
5. Unpaid CEUs: View 'unpaid' passing exams and submit payment.
6. Receipts: View payments made and all credits and debits to your account.

How We Determine CEU Hours For Our Courses
NBCC VS. STANDARD CEU HOURS
At Quantum Units Continuing Education, we use the term ceu (continuing education unit) interchangeably with continuing education hours, contact hours, clock hours, CEH’s, CEU’s and CE. All ceu certificates issued state 'contact hours'. All courses in our program clearly state the number of contact hours you will earn upon completion. We use two different standards for determining ceu clock hours for each course.
Please Note: Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC license) and National Certified Counselors (NCC credential) will need to order courses with hours noted as NBCC. All other licensees and credentials (the majority of participants) will need to order courses noted as 'standard hours'. If you have multiple licenses/credentials - then NBCC hours will take precedence.
1. NBCC (National Board of Certified Counselors) guidelines: One clock hour of credit under NBCC guidelines is awarded for reading 4,000 words of text. If you are renewing a license based upon NBCC approval you will need to check the NBCC hours listed next to each course.
All other renewals will be using the contact hours based upon the guidelines in #2 below.
2. NAADAC (National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors) guidelines: A survey of continuing education providers resulted in the development of the following guidelines:
3-5 pages of reading = 1 CEH (continuing education hour)
3-5 posttest questions per CEH (continuing education hour)
Under NAADAC guidelines, we have considered varying complexity. While more technical courses stay within the 3-5 pages per CEH range, less technical courses with tables, case histories or dialogues are assigned 1 CEH for more pages of material.
A reasonable amount of credit is also allowed for time involved in testing, making payment and completion of the required post-exam evaluation.
CEU (Continuing Education Unit) Examples:
1) A Licensed Social Worker in California (NAADAC guidelines) needs 36 continuing education hours to renew his/her license. The social worker completes a 5 hour ceu course on 'Ethics'. The social worker now has 31 ceu hours left to complete in order to renew his/her license.
2) An LPC (or NCC) (NBCC hours apply) in Texas needs 60 continuing education hours to renew. He/she takes the same Ethics course as the above social worker, but based upon NBCC guidelines the course for the LPC licensee is valued at 3 ceu hours. The LPC now has 57 hours left to complete to renew his/her license.
All ceu certificates awarded clearly state the number of ceu hours earned based upon the type of license and will clearly state any inclusive hours such as ethics or hiv/aids. For an example see sample Ceu Certificate.
Evidence-based Best Practice
At Quantum Units Continuing Education it is our goal to deliver material to participants that is deemed evidence-based best practice in the field of mental health and substance abuse counseling. Course material provided on this site has shown consistent scientific evidence of being related to preferred client outcomes. Treatment Improvement Protocol manuals published by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration are frequently used as material for our courses. As these manuals become updated by SAMSHA, Quantum Units will make every effort to update our program material accordingly and in a timely manner.
Online CEUs
 We don't think you will find an easier format for completing online ceus than the one we have created. All material is freely available. Exam-taking is free. You submit payment after you have achieved a passing grade of 70% or higher on your electronic exam and only when you want a certificate. Once you have created your own personal account, a running tab of courses completed and payments made will be available to you 24/7. Just follow the four simple steps by clicking on Online CEU’s (found under the CEU Courses tab) in order to complete an online course.
Discount Plans - with our online program you will greatly benefit from HUGE savings by purchasing in advance of taking an online exam a ceu discount plan. Plans are as low as $1 per ceu hr. Home Study CEUs
If you select our home study ceu program we will ship to you an exam, course evaluation form and prepaid return packaging. Your book will be shipped to your direct from Amazon.com. The book is yours to keep, compliments of Quantum Units Continuing Education.
When you're done with the exam, place all the materials, except the book, into the pre-paid envelope and return it to QUE. You will receive a ceu certificate of hours earned by your choice of instant certificate download from your account, USPS or fax.
If you want to use your own text (or purchase your text from Amazon.com) we will mail you an 'exam only' version of the course. This allows us to pass on a savings to you.
Please keep in mind when ordering any home study ceu course that you will need to allow time for your order to be mailed (3 -7 days), both ways, in addition to the time needed to study and test. All home study exams are graded the day they are received in our office and credit to your online account is applied that day.
