CE Course Description
This course is a brief overview of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in various special populations. This course is taken from updated information put forth by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
CE Course Objectives
- Identify the special populations who are disproportionately affected by HIV/Aids in the United States including gay and bisexual men, men who have sex with men (MSM), African Americans, and other underrepresented populations.
- Summarize HIV infection rates, HIV and AIDS diagnoses, and HIV risk behaviors that affect special populations including MSM, women, youth, and members of various ethnicities.
- Discuss prevention challenges that contribute to the HIV epidemic among disproportionately affected groups.
- Describe the steps the Center's For Disease Control (CDC) is taking to address the high number of HIV cases occurring in special populations.
