CEU Course Description

This CE course provides mental health professionals insight on understanding and treating veterans experiencing homelessness by supplying: first-hand experiences from male and female veterans; screening tools for clinicians; characters of discharge; specifics for Vietnam veterans, Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, and female veterans; and the essentials of trauma-informed care.

CEU Course Objectives

  1. Discuss how the conditions for which veterans leave military service impact their eligibility for health care from the VA.
  2. Explain the sub-groups of women veterans that are at an increased risk for VHA homeless program use when compared to their male counterparts.
  3. Investigate the symptoms of Traumatic Brain Injury and how this may relate to homelessness among veterans.
  4. Elucidate why health care providers may have a difficult time identifying female veterans.
