CEU Course Description
The LGBTQ+ community is a diverse community that encompasses people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other gender identities and sexual orientations. LGBTQ+ individuals often experience discrimination and oppression throughout all aspects of their lives, including healthcare. There is a need for education and policies to ensure culturally competent care is being provided to LGBTQ+ patients. Nurses will encounter LGBTQ+ patients in all areas of healthcare and must be aware of the health disparities and barriers to care to be able to provide support and inclusive care to LGBTQ+ patients.
CEU Course Objectives
- Define appropriate terms for gender identity and sexual orientation in the LGBTQ+ community.
- Identify health disparities and barriers to care in the LGBTQ+ community.
- Identify appropriate interventions to provide culturally competent care and inclusive healthcare environments for the LGBTQ+ community.
