CE Course Description

Mental health professionals working with the substance abuse population face unique ethical challenges due to the complex nature of addiction, its impact on behavior, and the vulnerable status of these clients. Addressing ethical considerations helps ensure that professionals maintain trust, provide appropriate care, and uphold legal and moral responsibilities, which are essential for fostering positive treatment outcomes.

CE Course Objectives

1. Identify ethical principles that are relevant to the values of the substance use profession.
2. Analyze the differences between ethics while working in substance abuse populations and other areas of clinical ethics.
3. Explain common ethical dilemmas that impact the profession and how to ethically present or address these challenges.
4. Determine ethical decision-making using a model for substance abuse treatment practice.
